City of Tucson T.R.E.E. Center
2026 Crescordia Award RecipientThe City of Tucson T.R.E.E. Center puts sustainability into action by growing both trees and opportunity. As a core component of Mayor Regina Romero’s Tucson Million Trees initiative, the Center transforms underutilized land at the Los Reales Sustainability Campus into a productive space that supports urban forestry, education, and workforce development.
Through cross-department collaboration and partnership with Tucson Clean & Beautiful, the T.R.E.E. Center produces desert-adapted shade and fruit trees that improve neighborhood cooling and expand equitable access to shade. To date, nearly 5,000 trees have been grown to support citywide planting efforts.
By integrating compost and mulch from Tucson’s diverted green waste and engaging youth, volunteers, and workforce trainees, the T.R.E.E. Center demonstrates how municipal leadership can advance climate resilience, zero-waste goals, and community well-being—delivering measurable impact today while preparing for a more sustainable future.
