Securing Climate Funding for a Sustainable Future
In recent years, the United States has made significant strides in addressing climate change through federal funding initiatives. Notably, the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) stands as a landmark piece of legislation, channeling substantial resources into clean energy, environmental justice, and climate resilience projects nationwide. Despite these advancements, the continuity and expansion of climate funding remain under threat due to shifting political landscapes and budgetary constraints. Recognizing the critical importance of sustained climate investment for Arizona’s environmental and economic future, Arizona Forward has taken proactive steps to ensure that climate funding remains a legislative priority.
How Climate Funding Powers Arizona’s Growth
The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) has spurred over $360 billion in clean energy investments across the U.S., accelerating the transition to renewable energy sources. In Arizona, this has translated into major solar and battery manufacturing expansions, with companies committing billions of dollars to new facilities, creating thousands of high-paying jobs and strengthening the state’s clean energy leadership.
Our Advocacy Efforts
Letter to Arizona’s Congressional Delegation
Arizona Forward, alongside nine mayors and two council members, sent a letter to Arizona’s Congressional Delegation urging continued support for the IRA. This legislation is already delivering economic and environmental benefits to Arizona by lowering energy costs, improving air quality, and driving investment in clean energy projects. We are committed to working with policymakers to ensure these funding streams remain available for our communities.
Joining Senator Mark Kelly in Support of the IRA
To further emphasize the importance of climate funding, Arizona Forward joined U.S. Senator Mark Kelly at a press conference celebrating the one- year anniversary of the Inflation Reduction Act. Senator Kelly highlighted the IRA’s success in reducing prescription drug costs, securing $4 billion to combat Western drought, and fostering clean energy innovation. Our presence reinforced the urgent need to protect and expand these investments for Arizona’s future.

Arizona Forward President & CEO Lori Singleton and U.S. Senator Mark Kelly join local leaders and advocates at an Environmental Defense Fund press conference to celebrate investments in clean energy and sustainable infrastructure, highlighting the positive impact of federal climate funding on Arizona’s economy and communities.
A Strong Coalition for Arizona’s Economic Future
Protecting Arizona’s Investments
In January, a diverse coalition came together to draft a letter in support of federal funding initiatives. This letter, with over 150 signatures representing government agencies, municipalities, universities, and non-profits, underscores the importance of continued investment in Arizona’s future. Over the past several years, Arizona has benefitted from more than $18 billion in public and private investments in clean energy, water security, and infrastructure projects.
The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) have been transformational for Arizona, expanding solar energy access, upgrading water infrastructure, funding transportation improvements, and more. However, these gains are now under threat. Potential funding cuts could stall Arizona’s momentum and erode the economic benefits these initiatives have delivered.
Rolling back these investments would create uncertainty, slow job growth, and make it harder for Arizona to compete in a clean energy economy. Businesses in Arizona have made long-term commitments based on the stability of these programs, and any cuts would undermine those commitments.
As Arizona faces rising climate challenges, it is essential to continue supporting these programs. Arizona Forward and its coalition partners urge Congressional leaders to protect and expand these crucial investments. Arizona’s economic strength, environmental and public health, and future prosperity depend on their unwavering support.
Looking Ahead
Arizona Forward remains steadfast in our mission to advocate for sustainable policies and funding at the legislative level. We believe that through collaborative efforts with policymakers, community leaders, and stakeholders, we can secure the necessary resources to advance climate action in Arizona. Our ongoing initiatives aim to ensure that environmental sustainability remains at the forefront of legislative agendas, safeguarding a resilient and thriving future for our state.
By championing robust climate funding and fostering strategic partnerships, Arizona Forward continues to lead the way in promoting policies that address the pressing challenges of climate change while driving economic growth and environmental stewardship in our communities.
